At one of our first Thanksgivings in Italy, I was trying to explain the actual story behind the holiday to the Italian friends who had joined us, as the Americans at the table smiled wryly.
Thanks so much for the comment. I was a bit nervous that the piece would come off as too negative, so I'm glad to know that it didn't. So appreciate your support and friendship.
Yes-- that stove photo is a rarity. I'm not usually encouraged to get anywhere near food preparation. But stirring I can almost handle. Hope you and the whole family had a great Thanksgiving!
This was fabulous Eric. As usual, beautifully, written, interesting, timely, nostalgic and poignant! Love the pictures and the one of you cooking at the stove I want to frame it it’s so you !....well not at the stove
Oh Eric...this was so good! At first I braced myself for the diatribe of the American Thanksgiving (which could easily fill the pages) but you went right back to the true meaning...of giving thanks. And being thoughtful and contemplative about everything we have to be thankful for. I love your stories and can picture you and "C" living the wonderful (and at times, trying) life you've both created. And those pilgrim candles (but mostly the story behind them) are precious. The photo of you at the stove is adorable and it looks like "C" is probably the one who captured your joy shining through. Merry Merry Christmas to you both, no matter where you'll be. ❤️

I even had your onion cutting goggles nearby!
