This comment means so much-- really glad the piece connected with you. It's very funny-- I feel like our generation was the one in which the shared language of cars, boats, motorcycles, plumbing, etc. between fathers and sons started to break down. My dad and I could talk about cars and things together and go look at them, but God knows we couldn't work on them together. I have to watch a YouTube tutorial to put chains on my tires. I totally agree with you-- would love to have just some basic skills in the things that Dads used to specialize in. Really appreciate you reaching out. Good luck with that lawnmower.

Great piece again Eric but I wasn't ready at all for how emotional that last line would make me feel. My father was always tinkering with his cars and any other mechanical device we had round the house. Maybe our generation doesn't need to make and mend as much as our fathers did but I wish now I had the chance to learn just a few of his skills. I might have even had a go at that dodgy lawn mower.

Loved this story! Since I'm more about food than cars, I really found it all very interesting! Thanks for your continued great writing... and I'll bet your Dad was with you the whole time you were there!

This, but for me/my dad, it's Home Depot. :) You're so adept at weaving history, memoir, and travel.

I can see in my mind's eye your Dad's eyes lighting up looking at those cars! Great article

Another beauty, Eric. And I suspect your dad is not too far away from you in Italy.

Another excellent article. Gianni Agnelli, "L'avvocato", not Enzo "Il Commendatore"

Great article, Eric, but I think the photo is Gianni Agnelli, not Enzo.

A beautiful tribute to this Italian idea and to dads, your dad. Thank you! And a fine ear for alliterative words!

Yes-- I get a similar feeling in hardware stores, not so much Home Depot as that was a bit ahead of my time! I remember my dad loved the hardware stores in NYC (back when those existed), because there were always like six employees, but only one old guy who knew where everything was. So appreciate the kind comments-- means the world coming from you. Hope all is well with you guys!

Thanks so much! Yes-- I suspect he came along for the ride, so to speak. He was definitely a car guy--had a 1956 Austin Healey sports car that he would take around to car shows. He would have loved this place. . So appreciate the kind comments.

Thanks so much-- really appreciate the kind comment! (A little more alliteration right there). Was thinking about my dad on Father's Day and decided to write something-- even it was a little after the fact. So appreciate you reaching out.

You're absolutely right-- thanks so much for catching it. I remember looking at this pic and thinking how odd that Enzo wasn't wearing sunglasses. I should have known just from the cut of the jacket that it was Agnelli. I had completely misfiled it. Really appreciate your comment and your infallible eye!

You're so right-- really appreciate the correction! I should have known just from the perfect fit of the jacket sleeve. I had saved this pic years ago and when I saw it I thought-- that's weird that it's Enzo without sunglasses. Had completely misfiled it. Thanks for catching it and for clueing me in!

Thanks so much. And yes, I suspect you're right about my dad's ongoing presence here. Just saw that there's a "country music night" tomorrow in the square of a small town near us here in Marche-- strange, right? But he would have loved it. So appreciate you reaching out!

Thanks so much. Yea-- I had to call my uncle (my dad's brother) after I was there, because I knew he would appreciate it as much as my dad. That was definitely his kind of spot. Hope all is good with you! Miss you guys!
