I miss warm Christmases since I moved to Cremona. But the timing of this brilliant post is so timely because lately I've been reflecting on how Italian Christmas (together with the rest of the world) has become a bit standardized. Here I've been discovering plenty of beautiful and ancient local traditions that people here work hard to preserve. It's a pity that all these different views of Christmas are getting lost. Italy even had its own Christmas carols that now are almost completely lost and forgotten. Sorry for going off on a tangent! Hope you and your inner child reconnect and have a lovely Christmas 🎄

I almost died when I saw you writing about this SO EMBARASSING place in my town- more so since it is owned by the Mayor . It was the family wood working/lumber company until it went bankrupt. I will tell you more next time we see you...

Thanks so much-- very glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the good wishes about the Christmas lights. I think we'll keep it to tinsel from now on. I don't know where these products are made, but I'm quite sure it's in countries that don't celebrate Christmas :) Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

So glad you enjoyed it. I completely agree about Christmas getting standardized-- it's a shame when you go to a Christmas store in Italy and it could just as well be in Nebraska. That's really interesting about the Christmas carols-- I'm going to have to do some research on that. Sounds fascinating. Thanks so much for the insight! Have a great holiday!

So appreciate it-- one of those things that of course invites a healthy dose of sarcasm. But these days, you can't be completely critical of a place that brings a little joy to people. A little Christmas kitsch never hurt anyone. Hope you have a great holiday!

Oh that's amazing-- the mayor?? Wow. It was a pretty funny place to visit. I had heard about it because a music production company in Toscana with whom I've done some work has been helping to create some of their original music. Thought it would be an experience to see it-- and it was. But I think Vetralla can disavow any direct association- it's pretty well outside of the town center. Hope you have a great holiday!

There was a Christmas parade with the dancing Elves ( daughter is a daancer) and the town decorazione include those star sponges, the Lights strung in the medieval section rarely work and block terraces so the locals ( includi g Fulvio) from hanging their laundry ! Nobody asked permission to the inhabitants!
